Home Instead and Louisville Metro PD brighten holidays for SHC of East Louisville residents

We had a great time on Saturday, when several of our residents received gifts through Home Instead’s ‘Be a Santa to a Senior’ program.

We had about 10 officers from the Louisville Metro Police Department 6th Division and 6th Division Advisory Board visit with us on Saturday and deliver the gifts.  They brought gifts for 20 of our residents for Christmas, plus donated a lot of gifts to our Quality of Life Department. Our residents were amazed by the wonderful gifts and the generosity of the officers. Each resident received at least two outfits, plus music CDs, pajamas, toiletries and more.

Diane James said she was very thankful that the officers came to spend time with us. She said she was amazed because “they spend their efforts protecting us and then to take the time to show us how much they also care for the people they protect.”

Signature launches cookbook with recipes from nursing home residents, staff

Just in time for the holiday cooking season, Signature HealthCARE (SHC) has released a cookbook featuring recipes – some generations old – from residents and staff members in its nursing homes.

Titled ‘Cooking with Love,’ the book features a little bit of everything, from appetizers, soups and salads to sides, all-American dishes, ethnic fare, desserts and more. The project began earlier this year in Signature’s Urban Division, with staff members at SHC centers soliciting recipes from residents and contributing their own.

Recipes in hand, Signature then held a contest asking employees to submit suggestions for the book’s title. Meanwhile, residents created and submitted artwork for the cover.

Centennial Celebration for Belle of Louisville

Recently, we were able to celebrate the Belle of Louisville’s 100 birthday with the Centennial Festival of Riverboats.  We took a river boat tour of the Ohio River on the Spirit of Peoria where we dined on a feast of delicious foods and live entertainment.

It was such a treat to be able to attend this once in a lifetime event and help the Belle celebrate 100 years of fun in the city of Louisville.

‘Such a fun day’ at regional Senior Olympics games

I wanted to share a few pictures from the Senior Olympics.  We were able to bring with us 8 residents and 3 family members of the residents.  We were also able to have several stakeholders come out to support us during the event.

We had an amazing day.  Our morning started out early.  After we ate breakfast, we met up in the Living Room to get “fancied-up”.  We wanted everyone to know that “Life Is Sweet At Signature East”.  Several of our residents and stakeholders put bright pink color in their hair.  We put candy stickers on our faces and we wore our Life Is Sweet shirts in raspberry blue and bubble gum pink colors.  As we got ready we would chant “Sweet At East, Sweet At East” and we believe it.

As we arrived, all of the home office personnel were there to greet us.  We were offered muffins and drinks.  We also met Dawne Gee from WAVE-3 news and she was gracious enough to let us take a group picture.  The energy in the room with the other teams was awesome to feel.

Gardening Fun

We love planting flowers and watching them grow.  Now, thanks to Cristy, Joyce and the Restorative Department, we have beautiful pots to show off our begonias.  Very colorful pots for very colorful flowers.

Bourbon Tasting

Recently, our Administrator Brian and Assistant Administrator Matt had a study on what is bourbon and how it is made.  We even had the opportunity to taste several different Bourbons.  Brian made his delicious homemade barbecue for us to enjoy as well.  Thanks to Brian and Matt for the special treat.

Flag Day Celebration

On Friday, June 13, we celebrated Flag Day at SHC of East Louisville.   Our ADON, Larry, showed us the true meaning of patriotism as we raised a new American flag.
